Starting October 10, Kamau Ng’ang’a will be exhibiting in Kunstenlab. Ahead of the exhibition, we are visiting Kamau at his temporary studio in 'De Ruimte' in Deventer. You are invited to attend this conversation in person! During the session, Kamau will discuss his creative process, his artistic practice, and the ideas behind his upcoming exhibition. There will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions and engage in conversation with the artist. You are most welcome.

About Kamau Ng’ang’a
Kamau Ng’ang’a is a young artist who works with sculpture, installations, and collected material from public media archives. He is interested in how concepts such as ‘self’ and ‘identity’ are shaped by information and media that we consciously and unconsciously absorb, transmit, and pass on. In his work, he explicitly approaches ‘the self’ as a performance that is executed based on those underlying cultural and societal norms.

In earlier installations, he built reconstructions of domestic scenes in which alienating figures, made of scrap wood, play an uncomfortable leading role. He combines the wooden structures with moving images from American image archives, in which individuals are clearly playing a specific role. As a spectator you are also made aware of the role you, as a viewer, assume within this mechanism of performative identity.

At Kunstenlab, Kamau Ng’ang’a will work on a large-scale installation that, for the first time, is also used by the artist himself as the stage for a performance.
